Privacy Policy
Last updated 11 August 2026
This policy explains what personal information Planty collects when you use the Planty questionnaire and Service, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to this website and to the plans purchased through it.
1. Information you give us
When you complete the questionnaire you tell us about your plants and your situation: how many plants you keep, what kinds, where they live, how much light those places get, what has gone wrong before, how experienced you are, and when you would like to be reminded to water. You also give us your first name and email address so we can save your care plan and reach you about it.
Inside the app you may name your plants, keep a journal, and record what you did and when. That material is yours; we use it to run your care schedule and to show you your own history.
2. Photographs
Identification and diagnosis work from photographs you choose to upload. We process an uploaded image to produce a result, and we store it against the plant in your garden so that your journal and your diagnosis history remain meaningful to you. You can delete a photograph, or a plant along with its photographs, from within the app.
A photograph of a plant is often also a photograph of a home. We do not use your photographs to identify people, we do not publish them, and we do not sell them. Where an image is processed by a third-party model provider on our behalf, it is sent for that purpose alone under contract terms that forbid them from using it for anything else. If you would rather a particular photograph never left your device, do not upload it — identification is the one feature that cannot work without one.
Photographs and their associated metadata may contain location information recorded by your camera. We do not need it and do not use it to build a picture of where you live.
3. Information collected automatically
When you visit we receive your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the approximate location derived from your network connection (country, region, city and postal area). We use cookies and similar local storage to keep your progress between steps, to remember your answers if you return, and to measure how the site performs.
If you arrived from an advertisement, the link may carry identifiers describing the campaign, ad set and creative. We record these so we can tell which campaigns bring people who find the Service useful.
4. Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. Card numbers, expiry dates and security codes are entered directly into fields hosted by Stripe and are not received or stored by us. We receive confirmation of the outcome, the amount, the last four digits and card brand, and the billing country. Stripe processes this data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.
5. Why we use your information
To identify your plants and generate their care schedules; to send the reminders you asked for; to produce diagnosis results and the guidance attached to them; to provide the Service and respond to support requests; to take payment and manage subscriptions and refunds; to keep the Service secure and investigate misuse; to understand which parts of the funnel work and which do not, so we can improve them; and to measure and improve our advertising.
We may use photographs and their results to improve identification and diagnosis accuracy. Where we do this, images are stripped of the account they came from first, so the material used for improvement is not linked back to you. You can object to this use by writing to us, and we will exclude your account.
Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on the performance of our contract with you for providing and charging for the Service, on your consent for advertising measurement, and on our legitimate interests in securing and improving the Service. You may withdraw consent at any time.
6. Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary with service providers who act on our instructions: Stripe for payments, our hosting and infrastructure providers for running the site and storing images, model providers for identification and diagnosis, RevenueCat for managing subscription entitlements, and analytics and advertising platforms including Meta for measuring campaign performance.
Information shared with advertising platforms for measurement is limited to identifiers, and contact details are hashed before they are sent so the platform receives a scrambled value rather than your email address. We do not sell your personal information, we do not share your photographs with advertisers, and we do not share your questionnaire answers with them either.
If you post to a community area of the Service, what you post there is visible to other users by design. Treat it as public.
We may disclose information where we are legally required to do so, or where necessary to establish or defend legal claims.
7. International transfers and retention
We and our providers operate in the United States and elsewhere, so your information may be transferred outside your country of residence. Where such transfers are subject to legal safeguards, we rely on the mechanisms recognised for that purpose, including standard contractual clauses.
We keep your account, your garden and your journal for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Records of payments are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Where information is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict certain processing, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
To exercise any of these, write to support@theplanty.co from the email address associated with your account. We will not treat you differently for making a request. You can turn off care reminders and marketing email from your notification settings or the unsubscribe link in any such message, and control cookies through your browser settings, though the questionnaire will not remember your progress if local storage is blocked.
9. Children
The Service is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Contact and changes
